- PCT500
-
- PCT500 is an extension of the PCT465 version of the PC-TALK
- communication software. All known merge fixes for PCT465 have
- been applied, and I have included some additional enhancements
- as documented below.
-
- Bob Mahoney Exec-PC Business BBS 414-964-5160
-
- The history of PCT500: PC-Talk III - was combined with a
- number of merge files and changes.
- This led to the creation of a major
- revamp of the program, leading to...
-
- PCT365 - This is documented in the file
- PCT365.DOC. PCT365 was then combined
- with some additional merges, and most of
- the changes that made this version
- different from the original were polished,
- plus all remaining merge files from the
- BBSes were added. This became...
-
- PCT465 - a complete merge, with better
- handling of the FREEWARE screen. This
- version was quite an undertaking, and still
- contained some bugs and minor annoyances.
- I took this version and applied fixes that
- appeared in the public domain. A few
- further enhancements were incorporated,
- and this then became...
-
- PCT500....
-
- Line 25 help was fixed so it could be made optional.
-
- (ALT-O) IBM 3101 emulation mode was fixed with a merge file.
-
- (CTRL-HOME) The split screen fix was applied, making multiple
- entries possible on one line of split screen input w/cr sub.
-
- (ALT-H) Modem hangup was streamlined even more. Now PCT500 will first
- try closing the modem port. This is immediate, and usually does
- the trick faster than the +++ ATH0 sequence. The latter sequence
- will initiate if closing the modem port fails to hangup the modem.
-
- Some of the most annoying beeps and clicks were mercifully
- extinguished, especially in the (ALT-Q) auto-redial area.
-
- The routine that looks for free space on a drive has been expanded
- to support more drives. It previously only supported drives A: to C:.
- It will now honor drives A: through F:.
-
- The ALT-B command was added. This toggles a "silent mode".
- All <B>eeps from PCT500 are silenced. All beeps coming in from
- the remote computer are also filtered out. Additionally, when
- an auto-redial (ALT-Q) successfully connects with a remote
- computer, the silent mode supports a high frequency beep that is
- unnoticeable from more than about 8 feet away from the PC. In
- non-silent mode, the calling sound when connection is established
- has been modified to use the 2 frequencies that are produced the
- loudest by the little PC speaker. It is very annoying and will
- definitely get your attention.
